Savile Row, London

Founded in 1836 by Stephen George Holland and Frederick Sherry as woollen merchants on Old Bond Street, Holland & Sherry is one of the most distinguished names in British cloth merchanting. The firm later moved to Golden Square - then the centre of the woollen trade - and has called Savile Row home since 1982. Of all the cloth merchants of Golden Square established in the late 19th century, Holland & Sherry is the only one that remains. Their range encompasses everything from classic worsteds and flannels to the rarest Super 200s, cashmeres, and pure worsted Vicuna. For us, Holland & Sherry represents the standard against which other cloth houses are measured - their bunches are a constant presence in our showroom and a first port of call for clients seeking something truly exceptional.

Elland, West Yorkshire

Huddersfield Fine Worsteds carries the legacy of West Yorkshire weaving - a tradition that has defined British suiting for centuries. Registered in 1920 through the merger of several historic Huddersfield mills, the firm today incorporates some of the most famous names in English cloth: Hardy Minnis, Martin Sons, John G Hardy, Hunt & Winterbotham, Josiah France, and J & J Minnis - houses whose individual histories stretch back to the 1830s and beyond. Trading as Hardy Minnis, the firm holds a Royal Warrant by Appointment to the Royal Household, an honour it has held since the 1930s. Their crisp worsteds and patented Fresco cloth have become a global standard for travel-suitable suiting. We work with their bunches regularly for clients who want a garment rooted firmly in the British tradition.

Marylebone, London

Joel & Son is widely regarded as London's most extraordinary fabric house. The business began in the mid-1940s when Hyman Bull, a North London tailor recently returned from war service, started selling fabric from a market stall. His son Joel took over the business at the age of 14 in 1952, and the family opened its first permanent shop on Church Street in 1979 - directly opposite the spot where the original stall once stood. Now run by the fourth generation of the Bull family, Joel & Son holds a Royal Warrant and stocks one of the largest and most diverse collections of high-end fabric in the world. Their range extends far beyond European suiting cloth - the collection encompasses silks, brocades, embroidered textiles, hand-woven African prints, Middle Eastern ceremonial fabrics, and South Asian dress materials alongside the finest wools, linens, and cottons from the great mills of Italy, France, Switzerland, and beyond. This breadth is central to our ability to serve a multicultural clientele across every garment tradition. We are particularly grateful to Joel & Son for kindly granting us stocks of their fabric to display in our own showroom, allowing our clients to view and handle some of the finest cloths available without leaving Fitzrovia. West Yorkshire, England

Yorkshire Textiles represents five generations of family expertise in the West Yorkshire cloth trade. The Waterhouse family's involvement in the textile industry dates from the mid-1880s, when their forebears worked as wool merchants and top-makers in the heart of Yorkshire's mill country. Today the firm sources superior quality worsted, suiting, and outerwear cloth from Yorkshire's iconic mills, supplying tailors and designers from London's Savile Row to Europe and beyond. Their cloths offer the honest character of authentic British wool, with the weight and drape that defines a properly made suit. We work with Yorkshire Textiles for clients who appreciate cloth that feels rooted in place - garments that carry something of the landscape they come from.

Brussels & Savile Row

Founded in 1938 in Brussels by Otto Hertz, Scabal is one of the most distinguished names in luxury cloth. The name itself is an acronym for Societe Commerciale Anglo Belgo Allemande Luxembourgoise, reflecting Hertz's ambition to bridge continental craftsmanship with British sartorial heritage. Since 1972, Scabal has occupied 12 Savile Row, where it remains a Mayfair institution, supplying many of the most prestigious tailoring houses in London and beyond. The firm is unique in being both merchant and mill: in 1973 it acquired the historic Bower Roebuck mill in Huddersfield, where its cloths are still woven today. Scabal is renowned for its innovations - the first Super 120s wool, the celebrated Diamond Chip and Gold Treasure collections, and the Summit range of Super 250s. Their cloths have clothed everyone from Winston Churchill to Marlon Brando in The Godfather. For us, Scabal represents the meeting point of continental refinement and British craftsmanship.

Bradford, West Yorkshire

Standeven was founded in 1885 by John William Standeven and Sam Earnshaw, building its prosperity on the excellence of its manufacturing in the heart of Yorkshire wool country. Originally based at Mixenden Mill near Halifax, the firm grew to employ over 700 people at its peak, undertaking every stage of production from raw fibre to finished cloth. Today, operating from Stanley Mills in Bradford, Standeven continues as a true merchant-mill - one of the few cloth houses in Britain that designs, weaves, and finishes its own fabric within a single Yorkshire mill. The firm is held in high regard by Savile Row, with houses such as Huntsman naming Standeven among their long-standing suppliers. Their range spans traditional British worsteds and flannels through to contemporary travel weights, all carrying the unmistakable character of authentic Yorkshire weaving.

Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Dugdale Bros & Co was founded in 1896 in Huddersfield - the historic capital of the British worsted cloth trade - and has supplied fine suitings to bespoke tailors for over a century. The firm is known for the depth and quality of its bunch ranges, which span classic British worsteds, flannels, and twills alongside contemporary lighter weights and seasonal cloths. Dugdale occupies a distinctive position in the cloth trade: large enough to offer an exceptionally broad range of fabrics, yet independent and family-spirited enough to maintain personal relationships with the tailors they supply. Their cloths are a staple of Savile Row workrooms and are particularly valued for their consistency, handle, and wear - the qualities that matter most when a garment is built to last decades. We work with Dugdale for clients who want authentic British suiting cloth with impeccable provenance and a broad palette of colours, weights, and patterns to choose from.

Pratrivero, Italy

Vitale Barberis Canonico is the oldest continuously operating wool mill in the world. The Barberis Canonico family's cloth heritage traces back to a documented sale of grey wool to the Duke of Savoy in 1663, and across thirteen generations the family has remained at the helm of the firm. Located in Pratrivero in the Biella region of northwest Italy - the historic centre of Italian wool weaving - VBC is a fully vertical operation, controlling every stage from fibre selection through combing, spinning, dyeing, weaving, and finishing. The mill is celebrated for its supremely lightweight Super 110s through Super 150s suitings, drawn from the finest Australian merino wool, and supplies many of the world's most prestigious houses including Brioni, Kiton, and Ermenegildo Zegna. With over 360 years of continuous operation, VBC is a member of Les Henokiens, the international association of family firms that have traded for two centuries or more. Southend-on-Sea, England

A garment is only as fine as what holds it together. Bernstein & Banleys, trading as The Lining Company, was established in 1953 and is one of the few remaining independent trimmings merchants in Britain. Run today by Jonathan Bernstein, the firm specialises in the often-overlooked but essential elements that distinguish a properly constructed bespoke garment - high-quality linings, silk facings for dinner jackets, traditional silk trouser braid for formalwear, interlinings, pocketing, canvas, and horn buttons originally produced by James Grove & Sons. Their printed lining collections, including original Art Deco and Kintsugi-inspired designs, allow our clients to add a personal signature to the inside of their jackets - that quiet flourish only the wearer truly knows. Bernstein & Banleys supplies bespoke tailors, couture houses, theatrical costumiers, and film and television productions worldwide.
